BEST TRAVEL TIME NAMIBIA: APRIL-MAY & SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER
THE CLIMATE OF NORTHERN NAMIBIA
Only in the north around the Okavango River, which flows into the Okavango Delta, it rains more often than in the rest of the country. For this area, the best time to travel is July and August, when it is dry. For the rest, those rain clouds don’t show up so fast in Namibia, so you can leave those boots at home. At the Okavango river, however, it is regularly wet from November to March and the roads can suffer a lot. You can also encounter many wild animals, hippos, elephants and many birds. This landscape is varied and has a tropical rainforest climate and therefore also a rainy season. There are lagoons, islands and pieces of jungle.
THE BEST TRAVEL TIME FOR SOUTHERN NAMIBIA – FISH RIVER CANYON
A true desert…

THE CLIMATE ON THE COAST OF NAMIBIA – SWAKOPMUND
Swakopmund, you’ve gotta be here. Because in the empty and sparsely populated Namibia this is the place to be. Nightclubs, fancy beach tents and dark casinos were founded here by the German settlers and you can get kaffee and cough everywhere. It hardly ever rains here and the temperature is a delicious 22 degrees all year round. This makes Swakopmund one of the driest places on earth. In the evening it barely cools down because of the heat that the Southern Atlantic breathes into the town all year round. An excellent base after your trip through the Namibia desert. Many other African tourists; a refuge for people from even warmer places.
THE CLIMATE OF CENTRAL NAMIBIA – WINDHOEK
In the middle of Namibia lies the capital Windhoek. A friendly, sturdy provincial city with cosy bars and colonial hotels where you can enjoy a good meal. In this region you will find many cattle farms, grasslands and savannas. If you can speak of ‘a lot’, in this empty country people sometimes drive 175 km to the nearest mall, in Windhoek red.
The weather here is warm and dry, surprising in this desert country. The best period is in our autumn; from October to mid-December; it’s between 25 degrees and 30 degrees here. Also in March and April it is fine here; the perfect gateway between north and south or east and west. In Windhoek the two main roads of the country cross each other and there is an international airport.
