A 920 Kilometre stretch of highway, the longest road in Madagascar, offers the perfect route for an epic adventure filled road trip. Starting at the capital city of Antananarivo you have a few options including driving up the coast to begin in Tulear. With a plethora of travel options, you can easily spend your entire trip traversing this route!
What can you expect?
A road trip with endless possibilities for adventure. Travel through rice fields and vineyards, through rainforests and mountains interacting with local tribes, discover different types of lemurs and unique flora and fauna that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. For example, begin your adventure at Lac Tritriva, a beautiful volcanic lake that formed in an extinct crater.
Ranomafana National Park
One of the most beautiful and picturesque parks in Madagascar, Ranomafana means ‘hot water’ in Malagasy, due to the hot springs found in the area. Located about 400 kilometres from the capital, a visit here should not be missed. Now a protected environment, the rainforest is home to several species of chameleon, birds and lemur; including the endangered and rare golden bamboo lemur.
Isalo National Park
Another popular park along the route, Isalo National Park offers travellers a place to enjoy hiking or have a restful night of camping under the star-studded skies. Along the route possibly visit the Betsileo people near Ambalavao or chance an up-close encounter with the ring-tailed lemur at the Anja Community Reserve. If you are looking to further expand your route, drop in on the indri lemurs at Andasibe-Mantadia National Park.
