Masai Mara National Park

The crème de la crème of safari. The Masai Mara is indeed one of the most renowned national parks in Africa, largely due to the famous Mara River where the Great Migration occurs annually. The Masai Mara offers excellent opportunities for spotting the big five! Camping in the heart of the park could be an incredible experience, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the sights and sounds of the African wilderness.

The Big Cats from Kenya

The crème de la crème of safari, the cream of the crop. The most famous park, the Masai Mara, is perfect for spotting the big five. The park is 1700 km2 and borders the Serengeti plain. Two mighty rivers flow through the Masai Mara park: the Talek and the famous Mara. This is the ideal habitat for a large number of herbivores, which in turn makes the Masai Mara more attractive to hungry predators: lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and jackals can often be easily crossed off here. The unpaved roads in the park are good to drive on in the dry season. In the rainy season you need a four-wheel drive vehicle and excellent driving skills.

The Great Migration

Are you planning a trip to the Masai Mara in July or August? If so, you’re in for a treat! During this period, the park is bustling with activity. Not only are there hordes of excited tourists in safari vehicles, but the wildlife is also abundant. Millions of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores migrate through the lush green landscape in search of food. During the dry season, these animals trek from Tanzania across the border into the Masai Mara, as the Serengeti’s drier grasslands can’t compete with the green, nourishing plains of the Masai Mara. When the rainy season begins in Tanzania, the wildebeest migrate back south, often having to cross the Mara River. This migration is fraught with danger, as hungry crocodiles lie in wait, resulting in dramatic scenes of predator-prey interaction. If you’re seeking some adrenaline-pumping action, then visiting the Masai Mara during this time is a must, as you may have the chance to witness a kill up close.

A luxury lodge or camping in the middle of the park?

There are numerous accommodations around and within the Masai Mara. If you want to do something a bit different, then camp with our camping gear right in the middle of the park! We’ll arrange rangers who are skilled with a spear, a chef who prepares the most delicious meals, and with a bit of luck, you’ll get the clearest starry sky as a bonus.
