THE MAKAY MOUNTAINS
On the west side in the central part of Madagascar lies the Makay Mountains, also called the ‘Lost World’. Through a centuries-long process of volcanism, wind, water, drought, or in other words: erosion, a bizarre natural phenomenon has been created. A fine piece of work by Mother Nature if you ask us! The Makay massif is rarely visited, is quite isolated and is therefore one of the most impressive pieces of unspoilt nature on earth.
A MAZE OF CANYONS
The Makay massif consists of majestic plateaus divided into deep canyons. The plateaus are covered with dry forests typical of the western side of Madagascar. Between the deep canyons, life has developed over hundreds of millions of years that is found nowhere else in the world. It is as if you open the wardrobe from the normal world to Narnia. Between the maze of canyons, you find humid vegetation that isolates itself and protects it from humans.
A MULTI-DAY TRIP
On a multi-day hike through the Makay area, you will hike through different ecosystems and camp in the middle of fairytale Narnia land. Accompanied by a guide, you will explore the unbeaten paths between the giant canyons, walk along waterfalls, through currents, take a dip in one of the natural swimming pools and pitch your tent on one of the white sand banks.
