A PRISTINE COASTLINE
De Hoop Nature Reserve is a 36,000 hectare nature reserve, with a pristine coastline of more than 70 kilometres. A rich biodiversity can be found here! Because of these special elements, De Hoop Nature Reserve is on the Unesco World Heritage List. In addition, this is one of the largest natural areas managed by CapeNature. Apart from Unesco and CapeNature, the 19 km stretch of the valley is also on the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
GARDEN AND WHALE ROUTE
WELL GUARDED AGAINST THE IMPACT OF MAN
The Reserve was established from two farms and is intended to allow endangered species such as the Bontebok and the Cape Zebra to graze happily again. But in other ways, this park is strictly guarded against the impact of us human beings. You cannot take anything away from this place. Even that beautiful pebble or that shiny shell has to be left alone! The Marine Protected Area (MPA) of De Hoop protects more than just the reserve on the coastline. It also takes care of the dolphins, seals, Southern Right Whales and more than 250 fish species that swim up to three nautical miles in the sea.
WHALES PARADISE
So it is a paradise for the real nature lover! Behind the sandy beaches and rocks, there is an extensive area of dunes and further inland, a large freshwater lake, where you can take a brisk nature walk. Numerous whaling families come to holiday in this bay. Furthermore, De Hoop Nature Reserve can be combined with a visit to the southern tip of Africa!
