• Lake Manyara National Park

Welcome to Lake Manyara, the place where Charlie spotted his first tree-climbing lion! Next to these lounging predators, you will find a wide variety of other wildlife and untouched nature: bird species of all colours and sizes, splashing hippos, green nature, vast savannas, and swamps. Keep your binoculars ready!

Northern Safari Circuit

Lake Manyara National Park: more commonly known as the little brother and underdog of the safari parks in Tanzania. This park is ideally located next to bigger parks, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park in the Northern Circuit of Tanzania. Lake Manyara National Park is situated approximately 126 kilometres from the Kilimanjaro-city of Arusha. You’re going to want to include this park in your safari circuit of Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park, trust us!

Diversity at its best!

Lake Manyara National Park is 325 square kilometres in size and is located under the cliffs of the Manyara Escarpment. While here, you can easily admire the 600-metre high, gold-rusted Rift Valley. You’re in for a treat! This diverse park offers landscapes that vary from savanna to swamp and evergreen forest. You won’t believe it! The park has 11 ecosystems, it’s an amazing sight to see.

Bird watching

Lake Manyara National Park is a bird watcher’s dream come true. The lake is home to a staggering number of bird species! More than 400 species fly around here, so even as an inexperienced birdwatcher you will be able to check many birds off your list. In our opinion, one of the highlights is the beautiful flamingo: these magnificent, pink birds spend quite a bit of their time on Lake Manyara during their eternal migration, which in turns, paints the lake pink in colour. It’s quite the mirage! While here, don’t forget to observe the pelicans, cormorants, and storks too.

Tree climbing lions

Of course, don’t forget about the legendary tree-climbing lions! Old mahogany acacias are the ideal hangout spot and hiding place for the lions during the rainy season. One could say that these tree-climbing lions are the local mascot of Lake Manyara National Park!

Treetop Walkway

In the park, you will also find the first Treetop Walkway in Tanzania. Here you can clamber over suspension bridges as high as 370 metres above the ground! Let go of your fear of heights and take a good look around: you might just see a bird, monkey, or if you are very lucky an elephant!
