Don’t get us wrong, you can also book a regular safari at Charlie’s Travels. But we can make it extra special for you! Think of a boat safari on Lake Naivasha, a bicycle safari in Hell’s Gate National Park or a walking safari on Crescent Island. Do you really want to be off the beaten track on safari? Then jump on the back of a bike with one of our Maasai friends, or even better: cross the savannah yourself! The motorcycle safari is one of the many trips that we have developed ourselves.
Can you imagine anything more beautiful than driving yourself through vast savannas to get to that perfect sundowner spot? Nothing can beat a glass of wine under the African sun. When you return, the campfire will be waiting for you and you can enjoy a three-course dinner while you hear the jungle awaken in the distance. Later retire to your luxury safari tent close to your beloved, muse and enjoy the night together.
Instead of being tucked away in a gigantic hotel with an unimaginative buffet, we will find an unforgettable place for you. How about a sailing boat? Or a lovely villa right on the beach? A chef that roasts fresh fish for you on your own catamaran? Or rather fish your own food together from a traditional dhow boat? Sounds amazing right? Yes! It’s time for you to sit back and enjoy a tropical oasis with your better half.
You’ll get your beach retreat soon enough. First, let’s conquer the giants of Africa together. Everyone knows the majestic Kilimanjaro: the highest mountain in Africa. But also on Mt. Kenya or in the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda, you can do amazing hikes, sightseeing, or even surprise your special someone with a ring, just imagine those pictures, memories, and the ring of course. Whichever way you want to spend your vacation together, Africa has it all. Meet the locals, hear their special stories and learn about a different culture. Together we look at what suits you and make it a reality!
Over the years, Charlie has become good friends with several Maasai. Not the men who are so intertwined with the tourist industry that they do not even live out in nature anymore but rather the real Maasai warriors. Those who live in the middle of nowhere, pump water from wells, slaughter goats and occasionally have interactions with the king of the jungle. A dinner à deux at a campfire with a Maasai family will put your life in perspective. We find contact with the locals super important! Trust us, meeting the locals along your travels will give your journey so much more meaning and wonderful memories once you’re home again.
We live and work in Nairobi, Kenya, and for good reason! Not only do we love the country, but we also see a lot of potential in the East African travel sector. However, the market is still very traditional and does not always make a positive contribution to the sustainable development of the region. Fortunately, being based in Nairobi, we have the opportunity to do things differently – and utilise the untapped potential!

To reduce our ecological footprint as much as possible, we work together with eco-accommodations that operate sustainably and responsibly. One is Watamu Treehouse, which is an ‘Eco Tower’ that relies on wind energy to generate power.
On the coast, you will find the most beautiful private villas, right on a snow-white shore and alongside the azure blue sea. Private service and chefs who provide you with cocktails, cold beers and delicious multi-course meals throughout the day await! A swimming pool in front of the house, in case the sea has retreated too far. Depending on your budget and the number of people, we will find the most beautiful locations for you!
Camping gear in the trunk and you’re ready to go! We select the best camping spots for you and ensure that you have the right supplies. If you prefer a little more luxury, but still want to stay in the camping atmosphere we’ve got glamping for you!
Do you prefer not to leave your tent to go to the toilet while the wildlife is grazing around you? We select lodges that give you the ultimate safari feeling. Take Burudika Manyara Lodge for example. Located on the edge of Lake Manyara National Park, this property has bandas that blend in with the area. Believe it or not, the restaurant is wrapped around a Baobab tree! Another special lodge is Simba Farm Lodge: a working farm and lodge with breathtakingly beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Fair Trade Tourism is HOT! The cosy guest house Addo African Home is the perfect base to explore the park. This former farm is all about eco and fair trade. There is a huge garden full of fruit and vegetables and even a swimming pool that is completely organic.
AfriCamps is where nature meets luxury…in other words, get ready to glamp! Sure, it’s a little less off the beaten track than we usually like but hey – everyone needs a break from full-on camping now and again. AfriCamps Klein Karoo is located in the middle of the Karoo – be prepared for deep red-coloured dirt roads and the beautiful view of the Swartberg. The tents are all set around a dam often frequented by zebras and kudus.
The team lives and works all over Africa and therefore has a lot of first-hand knowledge and experience.
Wherever Charlie and his team travel, they develop new routes and experiences together with local entrepreneurs.
We tailor each trip based on your wishes and our African knowledge. Everything is possible and nothing is too crazy! Give us a try?
