” THE FACT THAT YOU NEED TO WORK DURING THE DAY ACTUALLY MAKES YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME MORE EFFECTIVELY AND ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF IT. DO NOT THINK TOO MUCH AND JUST BOOK YOUR TRIP YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! ” – MILI
MILI STARTED REMOTE WORKING IN KENYA – A WIN-WIN FOR BOTH HERSELF, CLIENTS AND EMPLOYER.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO WORK REMOTELY IN KENYA?
I think it is a great way how to spend longer time in one place and explore the country. Majority of the full-time working people do not have sufficient amount of holidays just to travel for a month. Like this it is possible to combine- enjoy both work and travel.I am sure that change of environment has also a positive impact on my creativity and new ideas at work which is a win-win for both myself, clients/employer.
HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? WHAT THINGS HAVE SURPRISED YOU THE MOST?
I must say it was one of my best last-moment decisions. Somebody could say it could be one of my craziest decissions to travel alone to Africa during the Corona Times :). To be honest, everything is just great, i feel much happier by meeting people and seeing new places which makes me even more productive at work. Regarding surprises there are many: simple airport vs. super controlled well-build train station with check in of 2 hours; the fact that at some places there are just no sidewalks on the street; the best one: soooo tasty and cheap mangos OMG!

HOW DO YOU EXPERIENCE CORONA IN KENYA?
When talking to people nobody knows anybody that had a coronavirus which makes me think it is not that spread like in Europe, where we all probably already know few people that have already passed this virus. Masks are mandatory everywhere (don’t worry probably not when swimming in the ocean) and when entering any kind of closed area there is a temperature check and your hands are disinfected by the security.
ARE YOU MORE PRODUCTIVE THAN AT HOME?
I would say I am the same productive from wherever I work since the job should be done even if I would be on the moon. While working in Kenya I feel less stressed if any stressful situation comes which actually makes me more productive at the end. I am also more productive and faster since i know there is something nice waiting for me after my work day (like a walk on the beach or just chilling outside with glass of wine with my new friends). In Europe unfortunately with the lockdown situations and scared people around it is not easy to make some plans after work.
TIPS FOR OTHERS INTERESTED IN SUCH A LONG-DISTANCE WORK TRIP?
Do not listen to anybody who tells you can do this trip when Corona ends! NO! Life is too short for that. I know many things seem like it can go wrong, like PCR test for the last moment or some rules that can slightly change but do not worry Kenya is a place to be! If you have any doubts about travel restictions contact the ministries, embasies and read the current regualtions in place. Even if travel is not recommended in your country it is very often not forbiden and the borders are open also with 3rd countries. Flights are cheaper and now often with flexibility to change it anytime. Charlies Travel will always do their best to solve any kind of situation that may appear. Last but not least- do not forget to bring 2 packs of sunscreen and Deet Repellent! You can buy some cosmetics here but the choice is not so wide and it is more expensive.
WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
I would recommend such trip for sure. It is just life changing experience. In certain situations you might feel a bit outside of your comfort zone what actually makes you stronger and more flexible. The fact that you need to work during the day actually makes you spend your free time more effectively and enjoy every moment of it. The group of people that you will travel with are most likely very friendly and openminded people which will make your trip even more enjoyable. I also felt very safe in Kenya and local people are super nice and always willing to help. Do not think too much and just book your trip you will not regret it!
