Mud-walking in the shallow sea
Vilanculos is a coastal city in Mozambique, in the province of Inhambane. Vilanculos is the pearl of Mozambican beaches! The sand is radiant white, the water clear blue, and there is a super relaxed vibe. The water at Vilanculos is shallow, you can really walk hundreds of metres into the sea. Due to the warm current which flows along the coast of Mozambique, the water is also really warm like a warm bath. Another important plus: you will not find a crowd of tourists in this city!
The bounty Bazaruto Islands
From Vilanculos, you can go on a traditional dhow safari and visit the beautiful nearby uninhabited Bazaruto Islands. A dhow is an old, authentic, wooden Arab sailboat. Ready for those Pirates of the Caribbean feelings? Float over the turquoise water, look out over white sandy beaches, and see an abundance of special birds and marine life. Go snorkeling, lay on the beach, and take pictures to make your friends jealous: this is the place to be.
